I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.– John 10:10
First Church is committed to be an advocate for the homeless. Here are some of the ways First Church is involved in homelessness in our community:
HOPE Outreach Together
We have a new grass roots ministry in Redding called Hope Outreach Together. It allows us to reach out to our homeless population in a “Love First” kind of way. Please check out the two turquoise bins, in the Social Hall, labeled with a list of clothing items needed. As winter approaches, sleeping bags and blankets will also be needed. Damon Cropsey leads groups of people who provide food and other items every 5th monday to the homeless in Redding. If you would like to join a wonderful interfaith ministry to the homeless, please contact Damon or the church office.
An all day event provided by Shasta Community Health Center. They provide services, as diverse as haircuts, help with paperwork, job search, clothing and much more for the homeless. The event takes place at the Civic Auditorium. Church & Society gathered new and used knapsacks and new sleeping bags to be given away to those in need. We hope to take a more active part in the future. This is a May event. We have also helped the Shasta Community Health Center by giving a portion of our Christmas offering to their Hope Van, which travels locally to provide medical services to our homeless.
