Tulelake Pilgrimage

We rejoice in the gifts that particular ethnic histories and cultures bring to our total life. We commend and encourage the self-awareness of all racial and ethnic groups and oppressed people that leads them to demand their just and equal right as members of society.

The internment of the Japanese Americans during WWII was a terrible travesty of justice.  Our church has opened it's doors and provided our Social Hall as a stopping place for those on a biannual Tulelake Pilgrimage on June 30, 2012. We provide a lunch break before they continue their week-end of education and remembrance of those who were interned at Tulelake.  We welcome them, set up and plan for their lunch and enjoy socializing and hearing their stories.

Their visit inspired Church and Society to educate the church family on the era of our history surrounding WWII.  We have shown the film, "Cats of Mirakatani." and " The Fred Korematsu Story" in honor of the first "Fred Korematsu Day".  At this showing we were able to raise donations for the institute to provide education packets for schools regarding that time in history.
