Genocide No More ~ Save Darfur

"Home" is a word that evokes images of safety and comfort. Thinking of home usually brings a smile. The faces of the children of Darfur light up when they tell the story of what home used to be. They miss it. When they tell the story of what happened to their homes, on that fateful day that changed their lives forever, they get serious and even detached, their dark eyes lost in their memories. Their current homes are tents. Against all odds, they keep dreaming and hoping for a day when they can walk back home to build a stronger Darfur.

1.  Gabriel and the i-ACT visited Camp Djabal for three days and found Adam Moussa.  He had moved from Camp Ko and is teaching at the Obama School in the camp.  We will be able to communicate directly with him on Pazacalo.  More info on how you can do so soon. You can follow the i-ACT team on Facebook or at www.Stopgenocidenow.org

2.  Action for Sudan (AFS) has been hosting weekly CORE phone conferences and this morning held a call with leaders of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF). AFS is an alliance of American citizen activists and Sudanese U.S. residents who advocate for an end to genocide and mass atrocities in Sudan.  Genocide No More–Save Darfur was one of the organizing groups.  AFC is dedicated to advocacy that is directly informed by the situation on the ground and by Sudanese people who urgently seek protection, justice, and peace. More info on its goals next week.  The website is at www.actforsudan.org

3.  Noted on the SRF call was concern about the genocide occurring now in the Nuba region of Sudan including the states of Blue Nile and South Kordofan.  Hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee their homes and estimates are that thousands have been killed by Janjaweed and Government of Sudan (GOS).  The GOS has refused to grant humanitarian access to these regions.  According to participants the U.S. has turned a "blind eye" to these events.  The leaders stated they would enter into meaningful negotiations with Bashir but only if it would lead to a fair and just peace.  Finally they indicated that they are "committed to attaining its political objectives, including a national solution to on-going violence in Sudan, a democratically elected government, the protection of human rights, and a friendly and cooperative relationship with…..South Sudan and that the hope to obtain these changes through peaceful means.
