Karen ByrneI was born a Methodist. I spent my childhood and teen years at the Inglewood Methodist Church in Southern California. I started singing in the Angel Choir in third grade, and have been singing in a choir ever since. I was an active member of the MYF during my high school years. Jim and I were married in the Inglewood church in 1965. After we were married, I went to work as a merchant’s teller in a bank for four years until our children were born. We have a daughter, a son, and four precious grandchildren ages 3-10.
We moved to Simi Valley for a more open space environment in 1978. Since both of our kids were in school, I went back to work for 15 years as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education. In 1995, Jim and I moved to Obrien Mountain near Lakehead to be near my parents, Earl and Dorothy Clark. I joined this church and the choir at that time. I went to work as an Instructional Assistant for the county’s Special Education program for 11 years until retiring in 2006.
My hobby is scrapbooking my four grandchildren. Jim and I make frequent trips to Southern California to visit our son and his family, and we travel to Georgia several times a year to visit our daughter and her family. We all enjoy keeping in touch with quick daily emails and Skype.
My activities in this church have been with the choir, and SPRC for the past five years. I am looking forward to serving as the Lay Leader for the 11:00 service.
