Whole Earth and Watershed Festival

Saturday, April 28, 2012

10am to 3pm
Redding City Hall and Sculpture Park

6 years ago in our little parking lot we had our first Whole Earth Festival to celebrate Earth Day and raise awareness about how we are caring for our planet. Since then this Festival has grown into a highly successful community event. It includes Redding's 2nd Annual Open Street Event along Park Marina Drive called "Family Biking Day," so make plans to ride your bike to the Festival!

First Church continues to be the lead organizer for the Festival along with 11 other organizations. This year our "booth" has grown, combining efforts with Shasta County WIC and California Cascade Association of Educators of Young Children for an "Earth First Young Children's Zone" filled with over 15 different activities.
  • Earth First Young Children's Zone
  • Watershed Passport Program (Grades K-12)
  • Innovation Fair for Young People (Grades 3-12)

We have received a grant from First 5 Shasta for materials, and it is listed as an event in First 5's Week of the Young Child.  Grab your family, friends, and neighbors and come join us on Saturday April 28th ffrom 10am to 3pm!

This year’s Festival is sure to have something for everyone

  • 100-plus Exhibitors (including government agencies, businesses, educational organizations, and local non-profits)
  • Great Food from local restaurants
  • Sustainable Living Demonstration Tent offering innovative and informative speakers offering practical ideas for living more sustainably, and Great Prizes.
  • Live Music throughout the day on 2 stages!
  • Ultimate Recycling at the Blood Source Bloodmobile
  • E-Waste drop off (used medical equipment)
  • Engaging activities for all ages
  • Shasta Growers Farmers Market – Open until 3:00
  • Cart Art Contest: Beautifying the Art of Recycling.  City of Redding offering blue carts to be painted.

Thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s festival to learn how they can live a healthier lifestyle, save money and energy, protect natural resources, and learn about the work of many local groups that help make our region’s communities better places to live!

So dust off your bike, get on a RABA bus, carpool, walk, or run to the 2012 Whole Earth and Watershed Festival for entertainment, inspiration, and an educational experience you and your family won’t want to miss!
