Worship Commission
We are essential in performing practical and often behind-the-scenes tasks to sustain and enhance the Body of Christ. There are many ways you can become involved in worship in a more personal way.
- Ushers: Serve to welcome worshipers
- Assist them in finding a seat
- Greet them as they leave
- Collect the offering
- Support communion servers by directing worshippers to the table
- In emergencies, ushers are the first to respond
- They arrive in the sanctuary 45 minutes prior to service
- Stay after service until the sanctuary is cleared
- Pick up bulletins and lost personal items
- Replenish the pew racks
- Direct people as needed during the service
- Count people at the service
- At the end of the service they deposit the offering into locked drop box
- Greeters: Serve by giving a smile and a handshake as they welcome woshippers at the door before service
- Help strangers feel at ease
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to the service
- Scripture Readers: Serve by reading the week's scripture verse as directed by the Pastor
- Communion Servers: Serve by offering bread and wine to the congregation after the Pastor has blessed Holy Communion ritual
- Walk around the pews to serve anyone who is physically unable to come to the table
- Worship Schedulers: Serve by arranging for other volunteers to usher, greet, read the scripture, serve communion or be acolytes for one of the three worship services FUMC provides
- Work by phone from the comfort of their homes
- Their work is complete when volunteers have been scheduled for the year
- All volunteers may work on a week to week or monthly basis
- Orientation is available
